a poll about eric peterson

February

11

2007

The poll is now closed, I will be posting a breakdown of the results soon.
Eric recently responded to Gary Angel about building context with metrics and KPIs. The whole thing had me quite worried.

I send quite a bit of highly engaged traffic his way, but none of my readers buy his books! So it’s time to find out why. Over on the right panel, you should see a poll (provided by MajikWidget), please take a few seconds to answer the question and let’s see what happens.

Oh, if you answer ‘zero’ and you are a web analyst, then you should go buy Eric’s books!

Clint,

An excellent theory! I suspected the same thing about traffic from Avinash’s web site. Especially since I am measuring visitor conversion for ONLY Web Analytics Demystified and my KPI book, your audience may already own these books. It will be interesting to see what kind of results you get.

I’ll have a look at a different measure of conversion on my site that you may be driving, requests for downloads and blog readership.

I’m glad you didn’t have a poll about the length of my hair. Thank god for that.

E.

P.S. I voted for “all three” sorry about that!

Hopefully we’ll learn something useful. Don’t worry about answering the poll, it’s bait for the bowl as it twere.

Well, I voted and own two books; this should be an interesting poll.

One of my readers brought up a factor I overlooked (in why I send Eric a lot of traffic that’s engaged but does not buy any of his books); it may be my blog …it’s too noisy.

But I don’t control the blog template of webmetricsguru.com, Know More Media does, so if it’s something to do with that – I may be out of luck.

I’ll keep trying (to send him more traffic that converts).

KMM puts in those ummm – crazy – highlight colors and such? Wow! It would take a bit of A/B work to prove that theory.
Thanks for voting!

BTW, I really enjoyed your self-portrait.

Hi Clint,

Excellent idea ;-) I did vote (3/3).
I’ve also much enjoyed your previous Post to Jeff Jarvis. I find a lot of people lately discussing in spanish (my mother tongue) about measuring and Web Analytics and sometimes it’s frightning what you find there… I read some time ago someone saying that AWstats was better than Google Analytics!
The evangelisation is not over ;-)
I hope we will have the opportunity to meet sometime this year in an eMetrics Conference ;-)

Marshall, please don’t take it so seriously. It’s just a theory (the design I mean). We did some tests with a new website that we were going to release (www.pcworld.be) and from our tests a simple design (as the current) was much more efficient in terms of page views per visit. The best way to find it out is to convince your bosses to give it a try (and do some A/B testing as Clint suggests).

Kind Regards from Brussels,

René

thanks Rene, for the poll response, the comment and your appreciation of the Jeff Jarvis post. You are quite right, evangalism is not yet done. Steeped in web analytics as we are, we tend to forget that we’re still out on the frontier edge of analytics, most others are still playing catch up – I don’t know what Eric might say but I tend to think that the adoption curve for WA is a long and slow one.

-Clint

P.S. I shall look forward to meeting you at an Emetrics!

I tend to agree with you, Clint. Long and slow …

We should have a thing at Emetrics, huh? For web analytics bloggers? Some special “invitation only” event? What say ye?

that’s a great idea – did you follow Podtech’s BlogHaus from CES?

I want the poll on his hair length. I wonder if I can convince Eric’s family to vote as well. :-)

FWIW, two EP books on my shelf.

Jason, I think Eric already has some plans for his hair, I’ll let him tell you about it though. :)
