We had a trainee and aurélie was strugeling to make him understand that in order to do Best Practices you needed to... practice ;-) The experience is invaluable, don't get me wrong, but imho if someone is not curious to start he won't do a good job in WA. Analysis is hard and time-consuming. And in the on-demand world we live in, it's very difficult for anyone (web analyst included) to be patient enough to do it well. Teaching it is hard not (IMHO) because of a lack of curiosity which while certainly an important component isn't the deciding factor. It's because while I could certainly come up with a way to teach the framework and theory of how I do analysis, it's my accumulated knowledge and experience that makes it practical - how do you teach that?
